To start, I have never played my switch without some sort of grip addition to my joycons. I just can't! I have small hands and have broken more than one of my fingers in the past and need some sort of shape to the back of my console or it becomes uncomfortable very quickly. All three grips with this case set are wonderful, they help with the weight distribution when you hold your switch and cause less strain on your wrists and hands. In addition to how comfortable it is, it has helped solve an increasingly annoying issue! Joycon connection, I can't stress this enough. Because this case is one piece aaaall the way around the joycons and console, there is no pressure on your joycons. So if you have that issue where that stupid plastic piece in your joycon has become worn and you have to click it back into place mid-game, GET THIS CASE! (Or you can fix it yourself with a kit but why risk it when you can have a sweet case instead?) I can't speak on durability yet as it is new but what I can say is I don't see it wearing out quickly with my intended use. I've used a different case since day one of the switch's release and it has lasted me through two consoles. That one was a hard case with thin plastic bits which took about 2 years to break. This case has no thin bits and everything has a nice stiff but flexible feel, just like the otter case I use on my phone. I've enjoyed it so much that I already ordered another one for my ACNH switch. I'll update this if anything changes and review that one as well. Im interested to see how well the color match of the joycons is and if there are major differences between the black and clear materials.
