I bought this radio during the hurricane season a few months ago. I recommended it to everyone and then it went out of stock. I am so glad that it's back now! I compared it in a totally dark room to another similar radio with a brand new internal battery and the light of the device from PeekWise was much stronger. I used my old one during Hurricane Sandy, placed it on top of my dresser and it lit up the whole room! This one is even better though... I hope we have no hurricane or blackout but good to know this will do the job! :)
This is a great entry level solar powered-hand crank radio. I have had mine since March of 2018. I test it / use it at least twice a month. The solar charge works great on sunny days. The channels are received clearly, it is easy to crank, and holds the charge awhile. There are dozens of other size radios out there, but this one does just fine.
Great radio, in each picture I tried to show the radio with all its features. The front is like a normal radio, on one side there's a led light, has an antenna on the back along with the crank to power the radio. On top is a solar charger and on the right side there is a usb port where you can charge the radio or you can charge your phone.
Bought this to add to emergency kit and tested it out when I received. Very, very pleased with this compact little unit! Seriously everyone should have one in their car- if your car battery dies and you can't charge your cell on it, this will give you plenty of charge to call for help. I plan to bring when camping, too. Only 5" long, great item to add to survival backpack, keep in car, and at home for emergencies. Simple and intuitive to use which is good in an emergency situation. After prepping the battery with 3-5 min of cranking I tested the light, radio, and USB charger. After testing all those things I was still able to charge my iphone from 75% to 92% on that initial crank and it didn't take abnormally long. The flashlight works fine and the radio works great on WB for NOAA station and on FM. For some reason AM reception is a little scratchy static-y, though pointing antenna in to find best signal helps. Also the dial tuning makes it easy to find a signal, plus there is a signal light that comes on when you find the best signal. Awesome! The unit is a bit hard to hold when cranking as you can't wrap your fingers around the unit when cranking or crank will hit fingers. Best way seems to be to hold upright on the edge of a surface (table, knee, etc) and secure with one hand pressing down and cranking with the other.
Great product, sometimes i just use it to listen to the radio!!
I am very pleased with this device! It is small enough to keep in my glove-box or purse. It is a good product. I will definitely buy from PeekWise again.
It just arrived, and we've checked it out. It had some kind of charge in it already, as we were able to light the flashlight, which is very bright and should be good for most situations. We did some cranking for a few minutes to test the radio. Worked great. Got to the weather band easily and picked up a broadcast for our area. Very assuring! Also picked up FM and AM. Handy indicator light lets you know when you are getting to a good signal. We have now given it a full charge by connecting it up to our laptop. Took a couple of hours. Instructions are clear and contain some diagrams. Not sure about charging cell phone. Will have to check that out further. Instructions note that cell phone charging should be reserved for emergencies only and not for general charging. Lots of features in a compact package. Impressive. SO FAR SO GOOD!
With so many uses this is a must have in everyone's household, emergency kit, tanning, camping trip and more. Summer is coming and that means pool trips, camping trips , fishing trips and this solar powered radio is going to come in very handy. Not only is it solar powered and can be charged in very little light even lamps but has a hand crank that can be used to power the radio also has a is charger and a spot for a back up battery. The flash light is bright and really came in handy the other day when we lost power. We had no way to charge it so we just used the hand crank and my six yr old set for 2 hours with the flash light on because he was scared this radio saved my sanity that night. Was also great because I was able to keep my phone charged just in case due to the severe weather. My favorite part was the wide band because I was able to listen for weather alerts close to us and further away that could be coming our way! This bad boy is going to get alot of use I can tell u you that! Totally worth it .
Over the years I've bought a few of these type of emergency radio/light/chargers to throw in my backpack or to keep close by if the power goes out for an extended period of time. For the price, this is a very good item. Don't expect a 100 dollar flashlight or surround sound radio because that's not the purpose. The radio is more than adequate and the charger, while slower than an actual sun panel, will charge your phone in an emergency. As for the flashlight, it does what it needs to do which is provide a small source of light. Overall this is one of the better ones that I've owned and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Great emergency back up. Doesn't get local radio clearly but does get local emergency AM station clearly during emergencies.
Great! Delivery in just 12 days. Thanks PeekWise!
I was concerned because no lumen was listed, but literally just two-three cranks and a bright light came up! You can charge it 3 ways, haven't tried the solar yet, but hand crank and usb work great. Only issue is the charge light doesn't turn green when connected to wall/usb, that would be nice. Radio is awesome, sound quality is fantastic. This is a must have if you live in Florida. Came in a sturdy box, with clear instructions. Walmart wanted over $65 for something similar that did solar/usb/hand cranking, plus emergency radio. Wish we had this when Hurricane Irma hit us, it would have been a lifeline then, as we were without power for 10 days
